Portage works with a dedicated team of power unit drivers. For our customers we provide only the power unit and driver, and the customer provides the trailer. In some cases, Portage is also able to provide the trailer pool to service certain lanes and equipment types.
These power units are then able to pick and drop several types of trailers that are leased or owned by a third party. Including but not limited to; Tanks, Hoppers, Dry Vans, Refrigerated Trailers, Open Deck and Shipping Containers on chassis.
We have Power-Only carriers that have the following endorsements:
- Van/ Reefer Hazmat (H Endorsement)
- Tanker (N Endorsement)
- Double-Triple (T Endorsement)
- Tank loaded with Hazmat (X Endorsement)
Types of Tractors used in Power Only include Day Cabs as well as Sleeper Cabs for OTR movements. Currently our Power Only coverage is limited to US domestic travel only.
Transportation plays a crucial role in ensuring that goods reach their destination on time and in the best condition possible. Power only transport is a specialized form of transportation that involves transporting empty trailers or other types of equipment to their required destination. In this article, we will be exploring power only transport in detail and discussing how Portage Logistics can provide custom solutions for your specific needs.
What is Power Only Transport?
Power only transport involves using a tractor to pull an empty trailer, rather than using a complete truck and trailer unit. This type of transportation is usually required when a trailer needs to be moved from one location to another, or when a customer wants to transport their own equipment and has the tractor, but not the trailer. Power only transport is also often used in cases where a customer only needs to transport a portion of a load and not the full trailer.
Types of Power Only Transport:
1. Short-haul transport: This type of power only transport involves transporting trailers over short distances, usually within a city or a region. This type of transportation is ideal for trailers that need to be moved from one job site to another or for transporting empty trailers to the loading dock.
2. Long-haul transport: Long-haul transport involves transporting trailers over long distances, usually across state lines. This type of transport is usually required for trailers that need to be moved from one state to another, or from one country to another.
3. Mission critical transport: Mission critical transport is a type of power only transport that is used for urgent or critical shipments. This type of transport is usually required for shipments that need to be delivered within a tight timeframe or for shipments that are critical to the success of a project.
4. Time sensitive transport: Time sensitive transport involves transporting trailers in a timely manner to ensure that they reach their destination on time. This type of transport is usually required for trailers that need to be delivered to a specific location at a specific time.

Power Only Transport Nationwide
Portage Logistics is a company that specializes in trucking transportation, and we have recently implemented a new service called “power only transport.” This service allows our customers to utilize our trucks for the movement of their trailers, without the need for a driver.
Power only transport is a cost-effective and efficient solution for our customers who already have their own drivers, but need a truck to move their trailers from one location to another. By using our power only transport service, our customers can save money on labor costs and reduce the number of trucks on the road, which is better for the environment.
One of the biggest advantages of power only transport is that it allows our customers to have more flexibility in their operations. For example, if a customer has a driver who is unable to make a delivery, they can simply use our power only transport service to move the trailer to its destination. This eliminates the need to find a replacement driver and ensures that the delivery is made on time.
Another advantage of power only transport is that it can help to reduce the number of empty miles that trucks travel. Empty miles refer to the distance that a truck travels without any cargo, and they can be a significant source of inefficiency in the trucking industry. By using our power only transport service, our customers can avoid empty miles and improve the efficiency of their operations.
Overall, power only transport is a valuable service for our customers at Portage Logistics. It offers a cost-effective and efficient solution for the movement of trailers, and it can help to improve the flexibility and efficiency of our customers’ operations. We are proud to offer this service to our customers and we look forward to continuing to support the trucking industry through innovative solutions like power only transport.
